Looking for 3D Printing Product Development Services?

3D printing product development service with a micro pump, control board, tubing and prototype enclosure

Need 3D printing product development support for a pump-based device? A successful prototype requires the pump, tubing, power supply, controls, and enclosure to work together.

JSG supports requirement review, pump selection, enclosure and internal-layout design, 3D CAD, prototype printing, and design revision before production tooling.

Unlike a print-only supplier, JSG can participate from the concept stage and use prototypes to identify fit, assembly, and integration issues. For example, we supported a UK customer in developing inflation equipment using the BD-04A brushed micro air pump.

What 3D Printing Product Development Support Can JSG Provide?

Customers may start with an idea, reference product, drawing, or existing CAD file. Depending on the agreed scope, JSG can provide:

  • Requirement and application review
  • Pump selection and system integration
  • Enclosure, internal-layout, and 3D CAD design
  • 3D-printed prototype production
  • Fit, assembly, tubing, and wiring checks
  • Design revisions for the next manufacturing stage

Project scope, deliverables, and acceptance criteria are confirmed before development begins.

How Does Our 3D Printing Product Development Process Work?

1. Requirement Review

We define the application, operating environment, dimensions, supply voltage, pressure, airflow or vacuum target, duty cycle, noise requirements, and expected quantity. A sketch, drawing, reference sample, or written description is enough to begin.

2. Component and Structure Planning

We evaluate the pump, tubing, fittings, power supply, controls, connectors, and enclosure, then plan the space needed for installation, routing, and assembly.

3. 3D CAD model

We create or refine a 3D CAD model and review mounting points, openings, clearances, tubing routes, and external dimensions. The design must support practical assembly, not just appearance.

4. 3D-Printed Prototype Production

After design approval, we 3D-print the required enclosure, cover, supports, pump mounts, brackets, or connector panels. The prototype enables hands-on evaluation before tooling.

5. Prototype Review and Revision

We review size, component fit, mounting, assembly sequence, tubing, and wiring. Required changes are then updated in the CAD model before tooling or another manufacturing process.

Why Use 3D Printing for Product Samples?

Production tooling usually requires a relatively stable design. Discovering a structural problem after tooling begins can increase both cost and development time.

A 3D-printed sample provides a practical way to check the product before making that commitment.

It can help verify:

  • Overall product size and appearance
  • Component positions and clearances
  • Pump mounting and installation
  • Tubing, wire, port, and connector locations
  • Assembly sequence and screw access
  • Button, display, and control positions
  • Basic interaction between the structure and main components

A 3D-printed sample is not automatically the same as a production part. The final material may differ in strength, surface finish, tolerance, sealing, heat resistance, and vibration behavior. Production-intent parts may therefore require additional testing.

What Makes Pump-Based Product Development Different?

A pump must be evaluated as part of the complete device, not only by its datasheet.

The actual performance can be affected by tubing length, fittings, valves, leaks, backpressure, power supply, operating time, and enclosure design. Noise, vibration, and heat may also change after the pump is installed.

Micro pump system evaluation for flow, power, noise, heat and load with brushed and brushless options

Motor type is another important consideration. A brushed pump may be suitable for a cost-sensitive or intermittent-duty product, while a brushless option may be considered for longer life, continuous operation, or electronic control.

By reviewing the pump together with the product structure, the development team can identify integration problems earlier.

What Information Should You Send to Start a Project?

You do not need a finished 3D file before contacting us. Please send as much of the following information as possible:

  • A description of the product and its function
  • Target product dimensions
  • Required airflow, pressure, or vacuum
  • supply voltage and power limitations
  • Continuous or intermittent operation
  • Target operating or inflation time
  • Noise and environmental requirements
  • Existing drawings, sketches, CAD files, or reference samples
  • Expected sample and production quantities
  • Target development schedule

Product development project requirements covering size, airflow, pressure, voltage, drawings, quantity and timeline

Even if the project is at an early stage, an application description and performance target can be enough for an initial discussion.

Why Choose JSG for Product Development?

JSG combines pump selection, enclosure and internal-layout design, 3D-printed prototyping, assembly review, and design revision in one development process. Our experience includes international custom projects such as the UK inflation equipment project using the BD-04A.
